In the operating system settings, starting with Windows 8, it is required to provide additional permissions for applications to access the camera and microphone.


For Windows 8:


1. Move your cursor to the upper right corner of the screen to bring up the sidebar. Then hover over the "Settings" gear icon and left-click:

2. Select the "Change PC settings" item below:

3. Go to the "Privacy" section of the settings:


4. Select "Webcam" and make sure the "Let apps use my webcam" switch is in the "On" position.


5. Go to the "Microphone" and make sure that in the "Let apps use my microphone" the switch is in the "On" position:

For Windows 10:


1. Click on the "Start" menu, then click on the "Settings" gear button:

2. Go to the "Privacy" section:


3. On the left, click on the "Camera" item, then make sure that the switch "Allow apps to access your camera" is in the "On" position:

4. Scroll down the settings data page below and check that the switch for "Allow desktop apps to access your camera" is also set to "On":


5. On the left, click on the "Microphone" item, then make sure that the switch "Allow apps to access your microphone" is in the On position, as in the screenshot:


6. Scroll down the settings data page below and check that the switch for "Allow desktop apps to access your microphone" is also in the "On" position.
